What is the difference between an academic interventionist and an executive functioning coach?

Academic Interventionists work with students who:

  • May have challenges in one specific subject area

  • Struggle with a specific skill set (ex. math)

  • Need specific preparation for exams based on expertise in a specific content area

Executive Functioning coaches work with students who:

  • Experience difficulty in several or all subject areas

  • Experience challenges with executive functioning skills such as note-taking, active reading, and study habits

  • Struggle with task initiation, are disorganized, disengaged, and have difficulty with sustained attention for academic material

  • Need direct explicit instruction to learn how to organize material, identify essential information, and prepare for assessments, applying specific test-taking strategies

  • Need executive functioning coaching in prioritizing work based on due dates, the significance of an assignment, and developing a sound, productive work environment and routine

How is an executive functioning coach different from a tutor?

Academic executive function coaching provides instruction in specific learning strategies which relate specifically to EF skill sets. This instruction employs EF skills sets to enhance the learning process and allow students to become more effective and independent learners in all academic domains.

What is co-treatment and how does our staff employ this model?

We believe that mental health and academic intervention should be treated simultaneously, as the two often impact one another. Through awareness and skill development we help our clients gain confidence from both a psychological and academic perspective.
