Our Services
We provide the services beyond the services
When speaking about what we offer, we often like to say we are “the services beyond the services.” In other words, when a student is identified as needing an IEP (individualized educational plan) there are a number of services a school can provide such as counseling, academic intervention, executive functioning support, etc. We, at Effective Services, can create an individualized “EFfective” plan of service tailored specifically to best support our clients. Although some of our students may be identified as having a learning disability, many of our clients simply need help with understanding their learning style and how they can maximize their strengths and receive support for their areas of challenge.

Academic Services
Individuals with executive functioning challenges often face hurdles in academic areas like reading comprehension, writing, and exam performance. They typically find it challenging to apply previous knowledge while reading. These challenges stem from the need for writing tasks to involve planning, adaptable thinking (such as rephrasing the subject), organizing, prioritizing, and leveraging textual materials. At Effective Educational and Therapeutic Services, we draw upon our expertise in special education and therapy to tailor our support, ensuring our clients with diverse learning needs achieve their fullest potential.

Therapeutic Services
Our therapy group consists of licensed counselors, social workers, educational psychologists, and family therapy experts. This team grasps the intricate relationship among the student, their educational environment, and their family unit. In our approach to emotional support, we join forces with the student's academic coach or executive function (EF) specialist to achieve a comprehensive perspective. Through providing personalized counseling to our clients, it frequently emerges that their families too could use our support. Consequently, our practice offers a wide range of therapeutic assistance.

Executive Functioning
Executive functioning deficits often manifest themselves in academic tasks such as reading comprehension, written expression, and test taking. Those who struggle with executive functioning weaknesses often have a hard time with drawing on their prior knowledge as they read. In addition, these individuals can often have difficulty with interpreting words, drawing inferences, and processing essential information. Another area of difficulty these individuals face is knowing how to prioritize which parts of a text are useful for a given assignment. These particular areas are difficult for those with EF deficits because writing requires students to plan, engage in flexible thinking (paraphrasing the topic), organize, prioritize, and utilize text sources. Students with EF deficits may also be poor test-takers. This is often due to the fact that they are unable to prioritize which information to study when preparing for a test. Once they begin a test, they are often unable to prioritize tasks, plan responses, or monitor their time.
